Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Helles in the Tropics

Hello and Happy Saturday everyone! Jack from The Intoxicated Review writing today about a new beer and beer type from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. Today’s beer is called Helles in the Tropics. A Helles is a traditional German pale lager. The word “hell” when translated from German means bright, light, or pale. I haven’t tasted this beer style before nor have I tasted this beer before. Can’t wait to taste it, so here we go.

BREWERY:

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

APV:

THE POUR:

Well, as the name suggests, this beer has a bright golden glow to it. It is completely transparent and has a head that forms at a little less than one quarter of an inch.

THE AROMA:

This beer has a unique aroma. I can smell bread dough and a mild hop aroma. Quite unique indeed.

THE FLAVOR:

This beer has an amazing flavor. It is light like a lager, but with more flavor. Up front there is a crisp, but mild hop flavor. On the back end there is a hint of bread dough and a super smooth finish.

THE BODY:

As the brewers said “This is an all-around absolutely crushable beer.” I rate the body of this beer at light.

Jack

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Resilience Butte County Proud IPA

Happy Friday Readers! Well, it’s finally here…The Weekend! I have a great beer for today in honor of the weekend. Jack writing today about Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s Resilience Butte County Proud IPA. In the past I have written about variations of this beer, but today I write about the original recipe from Sierra Nevada. As before, one hundred percent of the proceeds from this beer will go to aid the victims of the Camp Fire, which ravaged northern California in 2018. Over one thousand four hundred breweries nation wide came together to make this beer as a way to help raise money for those who lost everything. So if it’s in a store near you…grab a sixer and help out. Here’s the review.

BREWERY:

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

APV:

6.7%

THE POUR:

Resilience has an amber color to it and is mostly transparent. The head forms at almost an inch, when poured from a can, but it will settle down to about one sixteenth of an inch.

THE AROMA:

There is a very hoppy smell coming from this beer. It’s not overpowering, but it is rather pleasant. It also has a bit of a floral aroma to it.

THE FLAVOR:

This beer has a quite hoppy flavor to it. Up front it is very crisp and has a hint of pine mixed with citrus. The back end has a smooth, clean finish to it.

THE BODY:

The body of this beer can best be described as medium to medium heavy. Yet, still very drinkable.

OVERALL:

Overall, I found this to be a very tasty choice. I highly recommend this beer! Not only for the relief help, but also for the taste. This beer is delicious!

Friends thank you as always for reading today! I look forward to seeing you back again!

Jack

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Narwhal Imperial Stout

Narwhals Narwhals, livin’ in the ocean causin’ a commotion! Literally what I was thinking when I grabbed this beer at the store. Happy New Year everyone and welcome back to The Intoxicated Review! Thought I’d start 2019 with a bang and put an Imperial Stout up first for the year. Jack writing today hoping everyone had a safe and fun holiday season! Today’s beer comes from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in Chico, California. Narwhal, the subject of today’s review, is an Imperial Stout with chocolate and coffee. By the way if you have no idea what the Narwhals swimming in the ocean thing is all about, I suggest you go to you tube and look it up. Or use this link:

Here’s the review.

BREWERY:

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

APV:

10.2%

THE SHEET:

Hops: Magnum and Challenger.

THE POUR:

This beer is black like the night. Much like the depths of the Artic Ocean where the mysterious Narwhal lives. It more resembles a cup of coffee with a head than a beer. The head forms at three eighths of an inch, but slowly settles down to about one sixteenth of an inch.

THE AROMA:

This is a particularly aromatic brew. I was able to smell it almost immediately after removing the bottle cap. Right away I was able to smell chocolate. There is a coffee smell to it, but the chocolate really masks it a bit. I can also smell smokey notes.

THE FLAVOR:

Up front I can taste the malts. Sierra Nevada describes this beer as “A massive malt-forward monster.” And they aren’t lying. The coffee, espresso rather, comes next, but is rather quickly subdued by the chocolate. This is a very smooth feeling beer with a crisp, clean finish.

THE BODY:

Not gonna fluff it up at all. This is a heavy bodied beer. The color kind of sums it up on this one.

OVERALL:

Friends, this is a very full-flavored, full-bodied, powerful beer. I was very impressed with this beer! You know me, I love a great stout and THIS…is a great stout! I highly recommend this beer!

Friends, I hope everyone has a fantastic New Year! Thank you for reading today and I’ll be back again soon!

Jack

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Hop Bullet Double IPA

Welcome to the halfway point of the week! And more importantly… Welcome back to The Intoxicated Review! Jack coming to you today with another new beer from the brewers at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in Chico, California. Sierra Nevada has been hard at work on their Resilience IPA, which is the Camp Fire relief beer that I previously wrote about, but they still found time to turn out another beer, which today’s review will take a look at. Today’s beer is their Hop Bullet Double IPA. I saw this one at the store for the first time and thought I’d give it a try. I have always been a big fan of Sierra Nevada, so whenever I see a new beer from them I get a little excited. Here’s the review.

BREWERY:

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

APV:

8%

THE SHEET:

Hops: Centennial, Cascade, Chinook, Magnum, Crystal, and Idaho 7.

THE POUR:

Hop Bullet has a dark golden color to it, but it is still pretty translucent. The head first appears at three sixteenths of an inch, where it pretty much stays until the end.

THE AROMA:

This beer has a very hoppy and a West Coast “dank” aroma. Very “hop forward.” I actually found the aromas to be very enticing and not overpowering.

THE FLAVOR:

I found this to be a sort of reverse IPA. You get the hoppy, crisp flavor up front, mixed with pine. I taste no citrus at all, slightly unusual for an IPA. The back end is incredibly smooth and clean.

THE BODY:

This was a tricky one. Up front, the beer poses as a medium to medium heavy, but on the back end it has more of a smooth medium light feel to it. Therefore, I rate the body of this beer at medium. I found it only fair.

OVERALL:

I was very impressed and surprised by this beer! The flavor was fantastic! The “reverse IPA” aspects were a pleasant surprise! Good thing this is a year-round brew! Go get this stuff! You’ll love it!

Well time to sign off now! Thank you for reading and we’ll see you on the next one!

Jack

THE POUR:

This is a much lighter appearing beer than I have ever seen from Sierra Nevada. It pours with a bright golden color to it. It borders on translucent. It is a blonde ale after all.

THE AROMA:

This beer has a mild hoppy aroma to it. Much like Sierra Nevada says “uncomplicated” and “unfussy.”

THE FLAVOR:

Much like the aroma, the flavor is mild as well. This blonde ale has a mild hoppy flavor to it. I found the back end of the beer to be quite clean and refreshing!

THE BODY:

The body of this beer is very light. In fact I would rate it at light. It’s very easy to drink and veey refreshing.

Tropical Torpedo IPA pours with a darker oranger color, which is almost amber. The head forms around one half inch, but very quickly settles down to almost nothing.

This beer has an awesome island inspired fruit aroma. I can smell passion fruit, mango, and papaya. This is a quite wonderful bouquet of aromas coming together.

THE FLAVOR:

This IPA has a mild bitterness to it. The passion fruit flavor comes through first. The other two flavors come through on the back end. This beer has a quite clean and crisp finish to it.

THE BODY:

This beer does have a mild bitterness to it, which adds a little to the body. I woukd rate the body of this beer at medium. This is a very easy to drink beer.

OVERALL:

Friends, this is an amazingly flavorful beer! I can see now why the wife likes it so much. I highly recommend getting a sample of this beer. Good news, it is a year-round release.

Jack

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Torpedo Extra IPA

Happy Hump Day everyone! We’re halfway to the weekend! Hang in there! Jack from The Intoxicated Review reviewing a brewer that has been written about on numerous occasions here at The Intoxicated Review, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. Today’s beer selection is their Torpedo Extra IPA. To be honest, I have seen this one in the store on numerous occasions and for some reason I continually passed it up. May e because I’ve never had it before…dunno. That being said here is Torpedo Extra IPA.

BREWERY:

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

APV:

7.2%

THE SHEET:

Hops: Magnum, Crystal, and Citra

THE POUR:

This version if Torpedo pours with an almost amber color to it. The head forms around and inch bjt will settlw down to about one quarter of an inch. As you drink this beer the head will slowly disappear.

THE AROMA:

Well, when I take a whiff of this beer I can smell citrus, probably because of the Citra hops. I can also smell a crisp pine smell as well as tropical fruit tones.

THE FLAVOR:

Described by Sierra Nevada Brewing Company as a “hop bomb” Extra IPA is a quite hoppy brew. It is very smooth and mild to medium bitter. It packs some great flavor though! Up front I can taste the pine. On the back end I can detect the fruit flavors.

THE BODY:

This is a medium heavy bodied brew that is quite smooth despite the bitterness.

OVERALL:

Friends, after tasting this beer I’m not sure why I passed it over for so long. This was a great beer with a lot to offer! Truth be told I had two while writing this review.

Loyal followers, as always THANK YOU FOR READING! John and I really appreciate all the support!

See you back again soon!

Jack

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Experimental Hop Session IPA

Well beer buddies, another Monday in the books! That means it’s beer time with me! Jack from the intoxicated review coming to you live from my kitchen to bring you Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s Experimental Hop Session IPA. This is the fourth beer in the pack of four and thus marks the completion of my review of these four beers. I snuck a few other beers in between my reviews of these beers, but I figured what the heck for variety’s sake. Today’s review, obviously, is a Session IPA, which I don’t typically review very often. I have nothing against them, it’s just personal preference. Here’s the review.

BREWERY:

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

APV:

4.6%

THE SHEET:

Hops: HBC 520 and 09326

THE POUR:

This Session IPA has a bright golden, almost yellow color to it. It has a very frothy head to it, which forms at about one half inch, but quickly sets down to about one sixteenth of an inch.

THE AROMA:

This brew has a light, but very unique smell to it. I can smell lemon, something that smells like herbs, and hints of coconut. Should be quite a taste.

THE FLAVOR:

Sierra Nevada describes the flavor of this beer as “snappy”. I’ll admit, it does have a flavor all of its own. Up front I get the hoppy flavor from the experimental hops. I also get the aforementioned herbs. On the back end it get the citrus from the lemon. This beer has a very crisp finish to it.

THE BODY:

In my experience Session IPAs tend to have a lighter body than your average IPA. You get the same flavor quality, just with a lower alcohol content. That being said I would rate the body of this beer at light.

OVERALL:

Friends, though I may not choose a Session IPA often, this one I would willingly choose again. I was quite surprised by the flavor as well as the aroma. I highly recommend this beer.

That’s all I have for today, but I’ll be back again soon with another review for you.

Thank you very much for reading!

Jack

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Experimental Hop Double IPA

Hello again beer fans! Jack from The Intoxicated Review writing today about beer number three in the Experimental Hop Pack I wrote about previously. I said I was going to do them in succession, but I tasted other beer worthy of the blog, so think of it as a break and now the break is over. Today’s Sierra Nevada Brewing Company selection is the Experimental Hop Double IPA. I have never had this one either, but Sierra Nevada has never let me down before. Here it is.

BREWERY:

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

APV:

8%

THE SHEET:

Hops: Experimental Hops 472, 104 and 07270.

THE POUR:

This DIPA has a dark, practically amber color to it. The head forms at about one half inch, but settles down to about three sixteenths of an inch and will decrease more and more as the beer is drank.

THE AROMA:

Sierra Nevada describes one of the aromas as a “dank pine”. I do agree with that as there is a robust pine smell. I can also detect some citrus fruit. I’m leaning towards grapefruit.

THE FLAVOR:

This DIPA is a full-flavored brew! I can definitely taste the pine up front and the grapefruit on the back end. This beer has a very clean finish to it, which I was not expecting. Typically an IPA has a crisp finish.

THE BODY:

This DIPA is a full-bodied beer and thusly heavier. It is very smooth with very mild bitterness to it. I would rate the body of this beer at medium high. It does have a heavier feel to it.

OVERALL:

This is a great beer! I was very impressed with the flavor combinations as well as the body. They come together well. I highly recommend this brew! It’s one of those IPAs that stands out from the others.

Well that’s all for today. But more beer is on the way! Thank you as always for reading!
